Rockbridge Co., VA - Route 39 could reopen as soon as Wednesday, after a section of the road was washed out by a weekend storm.
Contract crews hired by VDOT have been working around the clock at the spot between Lexington and Goshen since Saturday. They've dug out the road and stabilized the bank.
On Tuesday dump trucks hauled large gravel from a Lexington quarry to the site. The gravel was used to fill in the road, to prepare it for paving.
Crews expect to begin paving Wednesday. The road is expected to reopen by Friday at the latest, according to Rockbridge County Emergency Management Coordinator Robert Foresman.
