Rocky Mount Woman Charged With Trying to Hurt Child With Drugs

Rocky Mount, VA - A Rocky Mount woman has been indicted on charges she tried to harm a 5-year-old with prescription drugs.

A grand jury handed down five indictments against 41-year-old Kristie Leigh Hodges.

She has been charged with malicious wounding and abuse of a child.

The lead investigator says the charges stem from a welfare check police conducted on April 14 where they found Hodges un conscience.

Police say the investigation shows Hodges was attempting suicide and that the same drug was found in the child.

The investigator says they believe that Hodges was attempting to "take her daughter with her" during the suicide attempt.

Hodges was arrested on Tuesday and is being held in jail without bond.
