Rockbridge's Rowsey 83 Points Away from Record
Rockbridge County senior guard Andrew Rowsey has 2,605 career points and is 83 away from breaking the VHSL all-time scoring record.
He scored 38 points in a win over Rustburg Monday night in the Region III, Division 4 quarterfinals.
Rockbridge will play Spotswood Wednesday night - a team the Wildcats lost to by 30 points back in December. "I want to win this game as bad as I want to breathe. This is a great Spotswood team going in and we just got to play as a team. Everybody's got to contribute the way we did tonight and the way we've done all season and if we can do that we can come out on top," Rowsey said after Monday's win.
If Rockbridge can pull off the upset that would guarantee Rockbridge two more games in the regional final and the subsequent state quarterfinal. That would provide Rowsey with three games to break the record, meaning he would have to average 27.3 points per game over the course of those three games to break the record of 2,687.
Coach Darrell Plogger said, "[Andrew] needs us to help him and our guys have really bought into it. If the ball is in his hands then we're trying to set screens and trying to get him a look. We just got to make sure our guys setting the screens are opening up and also stay aggressive on the offensive end."
