Rockbridge Outlasts Rustburg in Overtime

RUSTBURG - Andrew Rowsey scored 38 points to help Rockbridge County to a 64-61 overtime win in the quarterfinals of the Region III, Division 3 tournament.

The Wildcats will advance to face Spotswood Wednesday night. Spotswood beat Rockbridge back in December by 30 points.

Rustburg's Tresjon Pilcher scored 26 points and Cameron Long added 17 in the loss.

Rockbridge led 28-26 at halftime and 39-35 going into the 4th quarter.

With the game tied at 51 with seven seconds left in regulation, Rockbridge had the ball when Adam Doll-Hennis was called for an offensive foul away from the basketball. That turnover allowed Rustburg to have the last shot but Long's three point attempt missed.

In overtime, Tyler Hubbard made two free throws with five seconds to go, forcing Rustburg to shoot a three to send it into double overtime. Matt Kimble's long distance three was off to the left at the buzzer.

Rowsey, second on the VHSL's all-time scoring list, is 83 points away from breaking the record.
