Roanoke Sobriety Checkpoint Results in One Arrest
Roanoke, VA - The Roanoke Police Department teamed up with the Roanoke County Police Department Saturday, in an effort to get drunk drivers off of the streets.
The sobriety checkpoints were conducted simultaneously between 11 p.m. Friday through 2:15 a.m. Saturday.
Roanoke City Police Officers set up their checkpoint at the 5200 block of Williamson Rd.
In just over three hours, the following citations were written by the Roanoke City Police Department, followed by the number of citations written:
Equipment violation: 1
Expired inspection : 2
Expired registration: 1
Failure to carry an operator's license: 1
No operator's license: 4
Revoked/suspended operator's license: 1
Other moving violations: 6
An officer who was working the checkpoint conducted a traffic stop after the checkpoint while driving back to the Police Department. The traffic stop resulted in a DUI arrest.
Roanoke Police say they will conduct more checkpoints as the New Year's Holiday nears. They say to expect increased police presence on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Roanoke Officers will conduct city-wide roving patrols enforcing traffic safety laws.
