Roanoke, VA - The Roanoke Regional Airport has begun a yearlong remodeling project - the first major upgrade of the terminal since it was built 23 years ago.
The $4.1 million project will result in some noticeable changes including a new front entrance that will do away with this revolving door.
Complete bathroom upgrades and new escalators are also planned.
There are also plans to install new counters that will be equipped with outlets to accommodate the growing number of passengers using electronic devices.
"It came from airport operating funds. It doesn't come from tax money or anything of that nature... fees. Basically we've been saving our pennies because we knew this project was coming," said Sherry Wallace with the Roanoke Regional Airport.
Airport officials don't believe the construction will affect travelers.
The project will be put on hold during important travel times around Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring break.
