Roanoke Regional Airport to Hold Disaster Drill

Roanoke, VA - Hundreds of first responders and airport employees will be conducting a disaster drill Saturday morning at the Roanoke Regional Airport and other nearby areas.

To help ease traffic issues, officers will be helping out with traffic, mostly up on Peter's Creek Road, where much of the training will take place.

While much of the scenario is being kept under wraps, we do know that the training will include a mock plane crash in the Park at Valley Pointe... which is just north of the airport and not far from where a real plane crashed a few years back.

In all more than 36 organizations will be represented at the exercise which is focusing on reacting to a mass casualty situation.

"Just so people realize that there isn't anything going on. They still will have access to Green Ridge Recreation Center. They will still have access to the DMV. It's just we are practicing our triennial," said Amanda DeHaven with the Roanoke Regional Airport.

The drill is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp and last through the noon hour.
