Roanoke Police Launch 'Project Clean Sweep'

Roanoke, VA - The Roanoke Police Department spent a good part of the morning helping out the community in a different way.

Officers and citizens who are completing community service tackled interchanges along 5-81 that have significant trash issues.

It's called "Project Clean Sweep," and the areas include at Orange Avenue as well as the Wonju Avenue and Peter's Creek interchanges.

An officer said the department is leading by example in hopes that people will be reminded that not only is litter unsightly but also against the law.
