Roanoke Police Searching for Suspect in Stabbing of Dollar General Employee

UPDATE: 4.24 p.m.

Roanoke, VA - Roanoke City Police continue to investigate the stabbing of a Dollar General Employee by a suspected shoplifter Sunday, after the employee followed the suspect on his bicycle.

The employee told police he noticed the suspect shoplifting at the Dollar General on Garden City Boulevard before. Police say the employee followed the suspect to the intersection of Gainsboro Road and Gilmer Avenue, where the suspect stabbed him.

The victim then rode his bicycle to the intersection of Elm Avenue and Jefferson Street, where he was able to wave down a patrol officer around 3:08 p.m., police say.

The Dollar General employee was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a large black jacket, blue jeans, white sneakers, and carrying a black and brown back pack. The suspect was described as having a beard and between 50 and 60 years of age.
