Roanoke Man Killed in Home Invasion
Update: 6:00 p.m.:
Roanoke, VA - Roanoke Police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one man dead and another on the run.
They say the two apparently tried to break-in to an apartment.
It happened in the 800 Block of Westwood Avenue... in the Westwood Village Apartment complex of the Salem/Lynchburg Turnpike.
Investigators say just after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night, a man answering a knock at the door was attacked by a masked man who was trying to force his way into the apartment.
Police say that masked man was armed with a gun.
Not only was the alleged victim in that apartment, but police say children and another adult were as well.
It's that second adult who managed to stop the attack.
"Another individual inside the apartment fired a weapon striking the one suspect... who was deceased at the scene. The second suspect fled on foot and we're trying to locate that suspect now," said Captain Monti Lee with the Roanoke City Police Department.
The man killed has been identified as 31-year-old Lamon O'Neil Price of Roanoke.
The second suspect is still out there.
The Commonwealth's Attorney would not speculate on this specific case, but says there is a provision in Virginia law that could allow for prosecutors to file a murder charge on the suspect that is still out there - for the death of his accomplice.
Right now, though, no charges have been filed.
