Riverwalk Expansion Gets Almost $50,000 To Complete Project

Danville,VA-- It's been two and a half years in the making, but very soon the expansion of Danville's Riverwalk Trail will be complete.

The outdoor division director for Danville Parks and Recreation, Karen Cross, said the second phase of the Riverwalk - Riverside trail project has been quite a challenge because it went over budget.

Parks and Recreation recently received almost $50,000 from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation for the project.

Cross said that money will help complete the expansion. Crews are finishing the paving of the trail, and installing a 115 foot bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Sandy Creek.

"We're getting really close to finishing the whole loop of the Riverwalk Trail. It shouldn't be long before you'll be able to go all the way around Danville on the rover on both sides," Cross said.

Cross said the expansion will be complete in early October.
