Lynchburg, VA- The newest playground in Lynchburg is officially open. The Parks and Recreation Department held a ceremony Friday to showcase the new addition to Riverside Park.
Mayor Mike Gillette and the Director of Parks and Recreation, Kay Frazier, spoke about the different features of the site. They say this is the first public playground of its kind in the city.
"This is the first public playground that was designed and built with the principles of universal design, which means that it's accessible for all children of all abilities," said Frazier.
The Lynchburg Rotary Club played a big part in fundraising for the playground, raising $50,000. The city Parks and Recreation department also got several grants to get the job done.
