Danville, VA - A fire in Ringgold Monday night left one person hospitalized from severe burns. It happened on the 4800 block of South Boston Highway in Pittsylvania County.
Ringgold Fire Chief Mike Neal says when they got to the location, a shed was engulfed in flames and they say the strong winds did not help. At the time, Richard Brooks, 48, was in the shed. He managed to escape, but was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center.
Abdul Akram says he was letting Brooks temporarily live in the shed while he was looking for a place to live.
"Flames, with the wind, at 50 miles per hour or so just flames very high. It was impossible to put out. We were afraid the house might get caught on fire," said Akram.
Neal says the fire could have started because of a space heater but the cause is still under investigation.
