Ridgeway Rescue Squad Getting Closer To Fixing Mold Problem

Henry Co., VA -- The Ridgeway Volunteer Rescue Squad is one step closer to being able to finally use their whole building. We told you earlier this year about a mold problem they discovered, which is costing thousands of dollars to fix.

The whole first floor of the Rescue Squad's building is off limits for now. And that means no kitchen, no meeting space, which creates a lot of challenges for the Rescue Squad.
Back in August, the Squad wanted to renovate the space, that's when they discovered the water problem. Water has been leaking through the walls causing rust and mold. Some of the 13 types of mold that was found can be dangerous.
They have been awarded $95,000 of assistance from Henry County. And they have recently signed a contract with a company to fix the water problem. Then, they will need to spend upwards of $100,000 to renovate the space including replacing the sheet rock and tile.
"We are able to relax a little now knowing that something is getting ready to start. We know beginning to late August the dirt is going to start being removed and the work is going to begin. Yeah we are able to relax a little bit now," said Darren Lockridge, president of Ridgeway Rescue Squad.
Donations from the public have also helped them pay for these costs. The Rescue Squad is doing a fundraiser on November 16th from 6-10PM. It will be a Casino Night and Silent Auction. You can get tickets by calling the Ridgeway Rescue Squad at (276)956-2811 or (276)956-5889.
