Lynchburg, VA - Congressman Bob Goodlatte has responded publicly in response to Virginia Attorney General, Mark Herring announcing his intent to prove Virginia's ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional.
Goodlatte said, "Well that's his official stance as Attorney General, I don't agree with him, I believe marriage should be between one man and one woman."
Goodlatte was in Lynchburg Thursday touring a CENTRA facility.
The Republican, and chair of the House Judiciary Committee, made very clear he will not support a repeal of Virginia's constitutional ban on same sex marriage, voted into law by Virginians in 2006.
"I think the voters of Virginia spoke in the constitutional amendment that was placed in our Constitution, and I believe it is constitutional, and fortunately we have others who will be defending that position in the legal proceedings that are about to take place" he said.
