Recent Fatal Accidents Keep State Police Busy
Two fatal accidents in a matter of days are keeping Virginia State Police busy.
Virginia State Police are investigating a wreck that happened around noon Monday on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County.
Police tell us a woman tried to switch lanes and almost hit another vehicle traveling in that lane.
The woman then overcorrected, ran off the left side of the road and overturned in the median at the 115 point 5 mile marker
A 72 year old passenger in the car died in the wreck.
She was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver has been transported to New River Valley Medical center.No word on how serious her injuries are.
In Franklin County, State Police are also investigating a separate crash that left a man dead Sunday Night.
Officers say a car ran off the road around 5 p.m., hit an embankment and overturned on Route 834, just north of Route 674.
The driver, Paul Rhodes, of Wirtz was pronounced dead at the scene.
A female passenger in the car was injured in the wreck, and was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
