Rain, Mist Creating Dangerous Driving Conditions, Putting a Damper On Weekend Festivals

Lynchburg, VA - Areas of light rain, fog, and mist area making for dangerous travel for people out and about this weekend.

Already on Interstate 81, VDOT has reported numerous accidents, with several areas of congestion. An ABC 13 employee reported seeing five accidents over a short distance Saturday.

Northeast winds have banked up low clouds and moisture up against the mountains, reducing visibilities across the area.

Of particular concern is I-77 near Fancy Gap. While no accidents have been reported as of this writing, the area is especially prone to sudden, dense fog in weather patterns like this.

The clouds and light rain showers are expected for most of Saturday and into Sunday.

The motoring for mentoring at VIR has been cancelled due to the weather.

While some festivals are being postponed, others continue this weekend. Check with your destination before venturing out.
