Danville, VA - Two people floating in two separate rafts had to be pulled to safety after being caught in a strong current in the Danv River, according to Battalion Chief B.K. Shields. Sheilds sat the Fire Department was called to Anglers Park at 3:16 p.m. Friday, where they noticed the two rafters were in trouble and needed help. An off duty firefighter happened to hear the calls for help from one of the rafters in distress, Sheilds explained. Bystanders helped the firefighter get the two rafters to the river bank. The firefighter helped keep the two rafters in place until trained crews including the Technical Rescue Team helped the victims to safety. The two rafters were not injured, Shields said.
