RAC Changes Membership Policy After Lawsuit

Roanoke, VA - The Roanoke Athletic Club has changed its policy after canceling a gay couple's membership.

The club sent out a release Thursday saying they recognize many contemporary households can benefit from their facilities and say they are expanding their Family Membership into a new Household membership.

That means the household can have a primary member and up to one additional household member that permanently lives in the house.

Their children are also on this list.

William Trinkle sued the club and Carilion last week, alleging breach of contract and violation of the Virginia Consumer Protection Act. He said he, his same-sex partner and their son were barred from using the facilities because they didn't meet club officials' definition of a family.
Trinkle's lawyer said his client is pleased with the change.
