Danville, VA - Danville Police are looking for two men who abandoned seven newborn puppies in a dumpster. The one-week old mixed-breed puppies were rescued Thursday night.

Police brought them to the Danville Area Humane Society after one man saved them. The man says he was going for a walk with his son when he saw two men throw away a dog food bag and drive off laughing.

When he heard whimpering coming from the dumpster, he climbed in and found the pups by the discarded bag.

"It's not only cruel. It's illegal, and a 10-minute drive would have brought the puppies to the shelter," said Paulette Dean, the director of Danville Area Humane Society.

The Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for tips that lead to a conviction and arrest.
