Proposed Urban Farm Could Be Country's Largest
Roanoke, VA - There's a deal in the works right now in Roanoke that could create the biggest urban farm in the United States!
Roanoke Natural Foods Co-op originally wanted to build their farm within the old Countryside Golf Course property, but neighbors weren't happy about it -- so they pulled the plan.
If approved by city council, Roanoke would sell the co-op roughly 18 acres of land that used to house the mounted patrol.
It was discontinued due to budget constraints.
"It has the look and the feel of a farm. So we're excited to see what the city thinks about it and if the proposal passes we'll be out there on the land right away and hopefully have a few things by Christmas," said John Bryant with Roanoke Natural Foods Co-op.
The group also hopes to lease an additional seven acres nearby.
The price tag right now is $30,000 ... with several hundred thousand planned in improvements.
