Program Helps People Deal With Loss of Parent Through Journaling

Danville, VA-- One organization in our area is helping people cope with the grief of losing a parent.

Liberty Home Care and Hospice held a program at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts on Wednesday that encouraged people to journal as a way to deal with death. They called it, "In memory of Mother's and Father's: Journaling Your Loss."

A guest speaker talked about the different ways of journaling, and how it can benefit someone in the bereavement process. Participants wrote memories about their deceased loved ones, and some shared them with the group.

Organizers said this is especially needed since Father's day is coming up.

"At the holidays at Thanksgiving or Christmas you hear is much about grief and getting through the holidays that I really saw a need for mothers day and fathers day. So many people have lost their mothers and fathers," said Kathy Gray, Volunteer and Bereavement Coordinator at Liberty Home Care and Hospice.

Organizers hope to make this an annual event.
