Preservation VA Predicts Former School House was Part of Rosenwald Program

Sonans, VA -- State historic preservationists have turned their eyes to a home in Pittsylvania County.

Preservation Virginia said they are 99 percent sure a house in Sonans is a former school built in the mid-1920s. They think the school was part of the Rosenwald Program.
The program gave educational opportunities to African-Americans in the South during the Civil Rights Era.
Preservation Virginia said there were 16 Rosenwald Schools in Pittsylvania County. Their mission to find all those schools and save them from eventually being demolished.
