Presbyterian Women Edge LU 51-49
Lynchburg - Presbyterian held off a furious late charge by Liberty to beat the Lady Flames 51-49 in Big South action Thursday night in Lynchburg.
It's the first-ever win for the Blue Hose over the Flames in women's basketball as Presbyterian takes over sole possession of the Big South Conference lead.
Presbyterian College led by 13 points (51-38) with five minutes remaining before Liberty went on an 11-0 run to trim the deficit to two. However, Devon Brown's layup rolled off the back of the rim as the buzzer sounded and the Blue Hose escaped with the win.
Liberty falls to 10-5 overall and 2-1 in the Big South after seeing its three-game winning streak halted. The Lady Flames have now lost three consecutive Big South home openers.
Emily Frazier scored a career-high 16 points for the Lady Flames, Devon Brown chipped in 12.
Former Brookville Bee Brittany Campbell pulled down a career-high eight rebounds.
Mariah Pietrowski of Presbyterian led all scorers with 17 points. Liberty will host UNC-Asheville Saturday at 3, with the Liberty men and Asheville to follow at 6.
