Police Say Vinton Driver That Crashed into Police Vehicle Was Having Heart Problems

Vinton, VA- Roanoke County Police say a driver may have had heart problems before crashing into a Vinton Police car Friday afternoon.

Police were working a crash in the 1200 block of Washington Avenue when a driver ran into the back of one of the responding officer's cars. We're told the officer was standing in front of the car, but was able to get out of the way without being injured.

Police say the driver, whose name has not yet been released, was in cardiac arrest when EMS crews got there. The driver was then taken to the hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead.

The accident is still under investigation.
