Police Release Name of VT Shooter
Blacksburg, VA - State Police have identified a Spotsylvania County man as the man responsible for the murder-suicide that occurred Thursday on Virginia Tech's campus.
Investigators have confirmed that Ross Truett Ashley, 22, of Partlow, Va., took his own life about a half-hour after shooting and killing a Virginia Tech Police Officer.
Ashley was a part-time student and business management major at Radford University and lived in Radford.
Radford City police say Ashley also stole a white Mercedes SUV at gunpoint from a real estate office about 15 miles from VT on Wednesday. That SUV was found on Thursday on the Smart Road at Virginia Tech.
Blacksburg police notified Radford City Police of the recovery.
According to court records, Ashley was ticketed for speeding in Radford on October 26. He was due in court on February 9.
