Roanoke, VA - William Byrd High School and Middle School were put on lockdown for about 90 minutes Friday morning as police looked for a man who robbed a nearby tobacco store.
State Police came in to help with the lockdown, which was ordered as a precaution only.
George's Tobacco is located just about a quarter mile from that dual campus that houses both schools.
Police say the man entered the store around 9:30 a.m., pulled a handgun, and then demanded money. The robber did get away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
As officers searched for the bandit, State police came in to help secure the William Byrd campus as a precaution.
"School administration decided to do a precautionary lockdown. There was no indication the suspect ever went towards the schools. It's just close and they decided, probably prudently, to be safe and lock the schools down," said Deputy Chief Chuck Mason.
That lockdown was lifted around 11:30 a.m., but that robber is still on the loose.
Police are looking for a white male that stands around 6-feet tall and weighing around 185 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black or gray sweatshirt with either black or gray sports shorts.
