Lynchburg, VA - More than 300 people came out to downtown Lynchburg Saturday morning for the seventh annual Point of Honor 5K.
The race started on Jefferson Street and went through the Black Water Creek Trail, looping around Point of Honor itself.
All proceeds from the race go to benefit Life Net Health for organ donations.
Race Director Kevin Shroyer said he started the race in honor of his daughter, who was an organ donor. She passed away back in 2002 at just 14 years old. Shroyer said the race raising money for organ donation is very important to him.
"I thought that it would be something good to do. I'm a very avid runner, I travel quite a bit to other places doing races. I am now an outspoken proponent for organ donation when I travel so I thought it would be good to do something right here in Lynchburg," said Shroyer.
Nearly 20 children ran the three-quarters "mini-mile" after the 5K was complete.
