Lynchburg, VA - A future civic center in Lynchburg is closer to becoming reality.
Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. says plans are moving forward to transform the old Sear's building at the River Ridge Mall into a regional meeting place.
Falwell says completing the Odd Fellows Road Interchange project will be critical to the traffic plan.
Region 2000 issued a study to build a 10,000 seat facility, hotel, and conference center.
"We just found out Monday from our traffic engineers that the new civic center that's planned for river ridge mall, that this interchange is what makes the traffic study work, what makes the traffic flow work. We didn't even know that until Monday," said Falwell.
There are still several more steps before the civic center becomes a done deal, but Chancellor Falwell says he's optimistic it will happen.
