Pioneer Female Runner Inspires Young Girls
Lynchburg, VA - A rock star in the running world stopped by to inspire the young ladies participating in Girls on the Run of Central Virginia.
Kathrine Switzer is in Lynchburg for the Genworth Virginia 10 Miler and she wen to the Lynchburg College Track Thursday night to talk about her experiences with the young athletes.
Switzer has a lot under her belt. She is a USA National Women's Hall of Famer and the first woman to run the Boston Marathon
"During the race at the 2 mile mark the race director jumped out, attacked me and my boyfriend, who was running with me, decked the official and I went on to finish," Switzer said. "It was an amazing radicalizing experience."
Switzer also ran a mile with the athletes in Girls on the Run. They have been logging their miles for weeks getting ready for the 4 Miler on Saturday.
