Danville, VA-- Piedmont Mall in Danville is getting a huge face lift. Hull Storey Gibson Companies bought the mall in March of last year, and now they're making major changes.
Danville City Manager Joe King said a new and improved mall could give the city's economy the boost that it needs.
New renovations at Piedmont Mall has some shoppers excited.
"I'm looking forward to it as a customer, I think it's great," said shopper Donnell Hairston.
"I'm sure it's going to be a nice shopping mall," said shopper Tina Emerson.
Hull Storey Gibson recently announced their new plans for the mall. They say those changes will also change the economy in Danville.
"We do contribute to the economy, and the more successful that the mall is, and the more successful that our tenants are, the more that we can have a positive impact on the local economy," said Coles Hull, Hull Storey Gibson marketing analyst .
Apart from a name change, the Piedmont Mall now called the Danville Mall, they said you can also expect to see major improvements, inside and out.
"In the inside of the mall, new carpeting through out the mall, new restrooms, new working escalators," Hull said. "Also, new ceiling upgrades that will remove the dated paneling and improve the lighting inside as well. On the outside, we'll be doing some landscaping, putting up new signage, and improving the entryways."
The big hope is that these new renovations will bring in new stores too.
"Some of the bigger stores that's in the bigger towns, I hope they will come here," Emerson said.
"If we have new stores come in, then we're going to have an opportunity for some people to get jobs that don't have jobs now," shopper Hazel Gray said.
