Person in Hospital After Accident Involving Bedford Co. School Bus

Bedford Co., VA - New details on the crash involving a school bus and a pick up truck in Bedford County. State Police Officers say the accident happened Wednesday around 2:40 p.m. on Route 122 one half mile north of Route 639.

Troopers say 72-year-old Walter Key of Bedford was driving the empty school bus northbound, when it was struck almost head on by 28-year-old David Turner of Big Island who was going southbound in his pick up and crossed the center line.

Investigators say Key wasn't hurt in the accident. Turner, who was wearing a seat belt, was airlifted to Lynchburg General Hospital.

The accident is still under investigation.

Dispatchers and other drivers say the accident happened on Route 122, between Bedford and Big Island, near Millstone Tea Room and St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

The crash was reported around 2:20 p.m.

No students were on the bus. State police are investigating.
