Franklin Co., VA - A Penhook woman died in a wreck at the intersection of Callaway Road (Route 641) and Dugwell Road (Route 731) that also injured a child and another person Friday afternoon, according to Virginia State Police and Franklin County Public Safety. Amy Jung Lawrence, 33, was traveling west on Callaway Road around 2:45 p.m. when her 2007 Chevrolet Malibu failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, state police say, pulling out into the path of a 2006 Hyundai which was traveling northbound on Route 641. "The car basically t-boned the Malibu," said Franklin County Public Safety Deputy Chief Billy Ferguson. Ferguson told ABC 13 that Lawrence was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial hospital. State police said Lawrence died from her injuries a short time later. Lawrence was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, according to State Police Spokesperson Bob Carpentieri. Ferguson said a child was also airlifted from the scene to Roanoke with non-life-threatening injuries. It was not known what vehicle the child was traveling in at the time of the crash. Carpentieri said no charges have been placed against the driver of the Hyundai, driven by Nancy Furrow, 51, of Boones Mill. Ferguson said Furrow was transported from the scene by ambulance to Roanoke with non-life-threatening injuries. State police say the crash remains under investigation.
