Part of Route 130 Closed as Several Crews Respond to Forest Fire in Amherst Co.

Update 6 p.m.:

Amherst Co., VA - Several fire crews have contained a forest fire in Amherst County off Route 130 in the Thomas Jefferson National Forest.

The fire began around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. It covered about five acres.


Update: 4:55 p.m.:

Amherst Co., VA - The Amherst County Public Service Director says Route 130 has been shut down to one lane as crews work to control a forest fire.

The fire is covering about 5 acres right now.


Amherst Co., VA - Several fire crews are on the scene of a forest fire off Route 501 in Amherst County Thursday afternoon.

The fire is half a mile west of the Route 501 bridge, by Snowden.

Amherst County Public Safety Director Gary Roakes says crews from the Big Island Fire Department, Monelison Volunteer Fire Department, and the Virginia Department of Forestry are all at the scene.
