Officials Track Down Man Wanted for Murdering Wife in Botetourt Co.

Botetourt Co., VA - A Botetourt County woman is dead after her husband shot her at the couple's Carvin's Cove home before eventually taking his own life some time later.

The Botetourt County Sheriff's Department says it took some time to find the murder suspect, James Hahn, 47, because he had made his way all the way over to the Smith Mountain Lake area in Bedford County.

Deputies eventually did find Hahn dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Around 8 p.m. Thursday, deputies were called to the 6400 block of Carvin's Cove Road where they found Hahn's wife, Donna Hahn, 43, dead with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was found lying on the front porch of the couple's home.

That's when they issued a "be on the lookout" for James Hahn, who was then tracked using his cell phone signal, to the Smith Mountain Lake Parkway around 1 a.m. Friday. He was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

Family that lives close to the murder scene had no comment about the couple who was going through a divorce.

Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle in Botetourt County did say that his office has fielded previous calls to that address; calls that were domestic in nature.
