Officials Investigating Martinsville Shooting

Martinsville, VA- Police in Martinsville are investigating an early-morning shooting that put two people in the hospital.

Officers responded to a home in the 100-block of Pony Place at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday and found the home had been shot at, but no one was injured. While at the home officers heard more gunshots.

We're told officers were then called to the 400-block of Third Street, where a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole. Officials say two individuals on the scene, 20-year-old Eugene Laquan Jones and 21-year-old Willie Tyree Grant, had gunshot wounds. Jones and Grant were taken to the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County, and then transported to Roanoke Carilion Hospital. Both men are listed in serious condition.

Officials say a large crowd gathered on Third Street after the shooting, and multiple departments were called in to help restore order. Officers from Patrick County, Henry County, State Police and the Martinsville City Sheriff's office responded.
