Northside, Rustburg Square off in Scrimmage

3A state champion from a year ago Northside came to Rustburg Friday to scrimmage the Red Devils. Rustburg's Rodney Waller makes the nice stop up front for the Red Devils.Later, Northside's Rahim Cunningham picking his holes and keeping his balance for good yardage. The Red Devils' Greyson Harvey finds Warren Lamberth in the end zone for six. Friday was the first scrimmage for the teams with the regular season kicking off in two weeks. Afterwards, players and coaches got to enjoy some cold watermelon and Gatorade provided by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, making stops across the region. Jack Baker, RUSTBURG HEAD COACH, said "We've got to move 'em out up front a little more. You know we've got linebackers who've got to run to the ball a little bit better and make a few tackles and up inside we've got to knock 'em back a little bit more."Burt Torrence, NORTHSIDE HEAD COACH, said "Hands-down this was the most efficient first scrimmage we've ever had and that was on both sides of the ball. So it's very promising but yet, we can't sleep on our laurels. We get to head up to Lynchburg next week and take on Brad Bradley and the Heritage Pioneers."
