Norovirus Hits Southside, Experts Offer Advice

Danville, VA -- It's a virus causing sickness throughout the country, and the Southside has had a recent increase in its number of cases.

The norovirus is a form of stomach flu that can cause severe sickness. It's also highly contagious.

Medical experts at Danville's MedExpress say in the last week they've seen a 10% increase in the number of patients with the norovirus. While there is no treatment, you can relieve some of the symptoms.

If you think you have the virus, doctors suggest drinking plenty of fluids and trying to limit your contact with others to avoid spreading it.

"The best thing we can do is wash our hands really good, absolutely before you eat after you go to the restroom of course," said Kathy Whilock, area manager of Clinical Operations at MedExpress.

They also suggest seeing a doctor if your symptoms do not go away after a couple of days.
