Roanoke, VA - Bad news for dozens of employees in Roanoke. Norfolk Southern is eliminating about 140 jobs.
That's because the railroad operator says it's ending regional classification operations at the terminal's hump yard, because those operations are no longer necessary. The jobs are mostly car men and train crews.
Norfolk Southern says it does expect to hire more than 850 employees this year. These furloughed employees will be offered jobs first.
