No July 4th Fireworks in Bedford This Year

Bedford, VA - There won't be any fireworks in Bedford this Independence Day.

The soon-to-be town did not include money for the annual display in the budget. Leaders had hoped to secure a private group to pay for the show, but were unsuccessful.

Bedford County stopped paying for half the show a few years back. In 2011, there was $27,000 in the city's budget for fireworks. Last year the city paid $14,000 for the fireworks display.

The fireworks were launched from the grounds of The National D-Day Memorial. The memorial did not charge the city for use of the grounds. The display was not an official memorial event.
