Newspaper Owner & Philanthropist Charles A. "Zan" Womack Jr. Dies

Chatham, VA - Longtime newspaper owner and philanthropist Charles Alexander Womack Jr. has died.

The 71-year-old, known as Zan, was the owner of Womack Publishing - which produced 15 weekly newspapers including the Chatham Star Tribune.Womack took over the company from his father in 1975.He was also well known for his civic service through the Womack Foundation - which provided recreation and educational opportunities for kids across the Dan River region.His funeral will be held Thursday at 4:30 pm at Mount Vernon Methodist Church in Danville.
