Lynchburg, VA - They may be young but don't let that fool you, this group of teens will be the next wave of business owners. Tuesday, the newest class of Lynchburg's Young Entrepreneur Academy was announced.
22 students from nine area schools will develop and pitch business plans to a panel of investors.
The program is sponsored by area businesses. Tuesday night Sun Trust bank donated $6,000 to help in the academy's mission of developing successful young entrepreneurs.
The students at Tuesday's academy launch were honored to be a part of the program.
"It's an amazing opportunity. Most kids don't get the opportunity to be funded for their own business, so it's an amazing opportunity for me at 17 to take" said Paola Sanchez, a young entrepreneur from Brookeville High School.
Last year, more than $5,000 was invested in ten businesses formed by thirteen students, all under age 18.
