New RiverBank Fund Created To Protect and Revitalize Dan River

Danville, VA-- In the wake of the coal ash spill in the Dan River, there's now a new fund to help support and promote the river.

The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region announced the River Bank Fund on Monday. They hope to raise $4 million to $6 million for it in two years. The money will go out in grants to organizations that work to celebrate, protect and revitalize the Dan River.

"We really hope this is just a great pool of money that will be here for generations to come, to care for our river, to give us better access to the river, to use it as a spotlight for our whole region," said Debra Dodson, Executive Director of The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region.

An advisory committee is being formed to help guide the development of the fund, and deal with how the money is spent.
