New Report Gives VA Schools Good Marks, But Issues Remain
Richmond, VA - The Virginia Board of Education's annual state-of-schools report is out, and it gives public schools good marks in most areas.
The report says 93 % of the 1,836 state public schools are fully accredited.
Also on the positive side - the on-time graduate rate has increased by 7.2 % in four years. The dropout rate fell to 6.5 % for the class of 2012.
Virginia students performed higher than national averages on the SAT and ACT exams.
But the report also says there's still an achievement gap between students of different ethnic, racial and socio-economic backgrounds.
