New Economic Development Plan Unveiled in Lynchburg
Lynchburg, VA - The City of Lynchburg has a brand new plan economic leaders hope will bring new jobs home to the Hill City.
It's being called "Opportunity Lynchburg: Lynchburg's Strategy for Jobs and Competitiveness".
Members of City Council and the Economic Development Authority are now getting the first look.
The plan is being unveiled at the Academy of Fine Arts downtown.
Garner Economics, a firm out of Atlanta, started this project last October, and it wrapped up last month.
During that time, consultants took a hard look at the key forces driving the economy in Lynchburg and examined the city's workforce.
Economic Development Director Marjette Upshur says the set of 22 recommendations are based around four areas.
"Attraction. How do we attract businesses to Lynchburg? How do we keep and grow the businesses we have? How do we keep, and even elevate more, our quality of life here? And how do we make this a great place for people to want to start a business from an entrepreneurial standpoint?," Upshur said.
Upshur says the list includes both short term and long term goals. She says the city is already working on some of the things that have been suggested.
