Lynchburg, VA - Centra says a new simulation center located in Lynchburg's Plaza shopping center is one of the largest of its kind in the state.
Thursday morning, officials held a ceremony to dedicate the new facility.
The Central Virginia Center for Simulation and Virtual Learning is a Centra facility operated jointly with Lynchburg College.
It has a little bit of everything to simulate a real hospital: patient rooms and dummies that mimic human actions.
"We have manikins that you would think they are truly live human beings. They blink, they talk, they breathe, they have heat beats so it is very real in terms of the training," said Patti McCue, senior VP of Patient Care Services.
Thursday's dedication marks Phase One of the 15,000 square foot center. Phase Two is expected in the next two years and will include a trauma bay operation room and an emergency helicopter.
