Bedford, VA - The spruce up continues at The National D-Day Memorial, leading up to the 70th anniversary commemoration.
A four-man crew began installing composite decking boards to benches along the wall of the main plaza Monday.
The boards were donated by Trex in Winchester and the installation is being provided without cost by F&S Building Innovations in Roanoke.
This is saving the memorial thousands of dollars.
The site facilities manager says businesses have wanted to pitch in to make the memorial look its best for visiting veterans.
"Given their ages, this is probably going to be the last opportunity to have a large gathering of D-Day veterans here at the memorial," said Martin Leamy. "We want to pull out the stops and make sure that they get the very best commemoration ceremony possible."
The memorial is expecting 10,000 visitors June 6.
