New Art Trail Coming To Danville

Danville, VA-- Danville Parks and Recreation says for the past few years they've been looking for a way to display outdoor public art.

The outdoor division director, Karen Cross, said the perfect opportunity arose when they were able to get a grant from the The Virginia Commission for the Arts.

The Danville Art Trail will consist of seven different sites. The Union Street overlook, the Danville Science Center and the Main Street Plaza are just a few. At each site there will be an art sculpture. Cross said the Danville Art Trail is modeled after other successful art trails in Charlottesville and Chattanooga, Tennessee.

In the near future Parks and Rec. will have a call for artists and jurors will select finalists. Also, there will be the opportunity for public to vote on two of the sculptures they like the most.

"The idea is to help the public enjoy art and also to attract visitors to Downtown Danville, the River District and the Riverwalk Trail," said Cross.

The Danville Art Trail will be on display Spring 2015 and will be up for 18 months.
