Neighboring Businesses Speak Out About Collector's Lair

Lynchburg, VA - Businesses near the now-destroyed Collector's Lair in Lynchburg are still trying to get back to normal after a weekend fire.

Fire crews were back on the scene Tuesday, putting out hot spots at the former hobby store on Fort Avenue.

The owner says the building was insured, but the $300,000 worth of valuables inside were not insured.

At the Five Star Academy, a daycare next door, the director hopes to re-open no later than Monday.

Smoke continues to billow in the building's direction.

"It's affecting not just their lives, but other people's lives. The sixty kids that go here plus the 20-something staff that doesn't have a job right now that's not getting paid because we don't get paid for not working," said employee Jessica Miller.

The owner of Collector's Lair says nine days before the fire, the fire marshal's office stopped by and recommended they add more fire extinguishers and reorganize a back storage building.

There's no record of violations in the court system.
