NC Judge Allows Environmental Groups in Coal Ash Enforcement
Danville, VA -- Environmental groups will now be part of North Carolina's enforcement against Duke Energy for the coal ash spill.A judge determined a coalition of these groups can participate in the legal action taken against Duke. Senior Attorney for the Southern Environmental Law Center Frank Holleman is part of the coalition. He says this is a great thing and will allow environmentalists to make sure all the facts are heard."We are going to be in there working to see if there is an effective cleanup of the Dan River site so the people and communities along the Dan River never have to suffer another catastrophe," said Holleman.Holleman explains if they win, they will not receive any money. His goal is simply to get the ash ponds moved.
